Bad News. Lenses Stolen

If you want to lecture me about security and photo equipment, save it. I know. I know. I know. I know.

Anyway, I am currently down several lenses and a strobe thanks to some light-fingered humanoid.

Among the confirmed missing:

nikon 14-24 2.8 serial number 247093 value about 1800
nikon 28-85 3.5 serial number 2109348 value about 300
nikon 50 1.8 serial number not known right now value 150?
nikon 105 1.8 serial number 236510 value... 600
nikon sb600 serial number not known right now value 300

So, why does this big dummy not know the serial numbers? Because the memory card with all the serial numbers was IN THE STOLEN BAG, thankyouverymuch.

All these were in a light blue Mountainsmith fanny pack with a gold carabiner on the top, and my last name, RHODES written in sharpie on the strap. Also my business cards are in there and assorted cables, remotes, batteries and pocket lint. Maybe a roll of film or two as well.

A report has been filed with APD. I am sans insurance right now, of course. I am hoping my good karma will come through, but failing that, please get the word out to any photographers in the Asheville area, I WILL make it worth their while to get any of these items back, and a good lead for the police.

If you are in possession of these items, and don't know what to do with them. Listen, dude. I just want the stuff back. I will ask no questions with a return. No cops. No baseball bats. None of my wacked out Roller Derby friends visiting you after dark. I promise.

I'm sorry to hear about this. bill. It must be like having part of your soul ripped at.

I hope you can get the stuff back--the universe wouldn't have it any other way. : ^ )

I hate thieves. Hate them to my core. The only thing I hate more than thieves is thieves who steal stuff they don't even understand.

Just give the stuff back, hell with enough contributions, you'd get more money from giving the gear back than you would pawning it off.

Dear Thief, do the right thing. As Bill said, no questions asked, no threats, just return it. Stop being a piece of shit thief. Bill worked hard for that gear, and he's a great guy and former Navy. You still want to steal from veterans? That will say a lot about you when you celebrate Memorial Day next year, because you obviously don't get it.

Sorry to hear about this. My camera and a lens were taken last year when I was robbed at knifepoint in Cambodia.

I hope you have better luck getting your things back than I did.

Bill, this makes me sick! I'm sorry it's happened to you. I had all my gear stolen back in '77. It was devastating to me then as I know this is to you. I still talk about a couple of those awesome lenses I once had. Like you, I had no job and no insurance.

Theft of one's tools is such a violation. I'm sorry to hear it's happened to you.

Aw, Geez, Bill. I really sorry this happened to you. I have a tendency to put my stuff down when out making pictures, too, and this reminds me that much as we'd like to , we just can't trust that people will behave with honor.

Ooooh, the 105/1.8! Now I wish I had stolen your stuff. Seriously, sorry to hear about that. I lost a bag of stuff to thieves about 1987 that I still haven't gotten over. Especially the pristine Nikon F and 24mm lens.

So sorry, Bill. Hate this!

Oh man Bill, that sucks. I reposted this on facebook, and I'll keep my eyes open as well. I hope they turn up. This is horrible.

That sucks...

When I had a camera/lens stolen (D2H w/Nikkor 17-35), I reported it to the police and called every pawn shop week after week asking if they had any Nikon cameras...Sure enough, I got my camera back about a month later. Best of luck! (don't forget to check out www.craigslist.com)

May want to check the local pawn shops. With the SR#'s you may be able to find your stuff and since you reported it to the police, you may get your stuff back. You will probably have to do the leg work though.

Yikes...at least they didn't leave you a pile of pooh. Theft seems to be increasing in this town.

Hey Bill, I don't think we've met but Wallace told me - Sorry to hear about this. When/Where did it happen? Maybe post an ad on craigslist or the MountainXpress
I'm sure some idiot will try to sell them. If you alert others they may buy stolen goods maybe some will come forward.

Unreal. Certainly could have happened to me as I'm not always attentive and too trusting at event locations. If any of this floats near me in Hickory, I'm sure to let you know.

I think it's cause of your fanny pack. I 100% blame it on the fanny pack...
